Worst product and worst service -- 2010-09-02
I live in Arizona and knew that the product was an evaporative cooler. When I received it it worked ok but the pump died after a month. So I have just a fan no cooler. I went to Sunpentown and they said they would send another unit. After 2 weeks I called and told them I had not receive a replacement. "Oh Sorry!" they said and then shipped my replacement a week later. This one lasted 10 days before the pump went out. I tried Sunpentown again and they told me that they were busy but would get right back to me. Not a chance that that is going to happen. And it hasn't. All you end up with for your money is a very expensive floor fan that isn't even very good for that. Please save your money. This product is worthless

This Air Cooler works great! -- 2010-08-28
I read the reviews on Amazon before I brought this Air Cooler and all of the good ones were right on! This is not an Air Conditioner but it is a great Air Cooler and it directs cool air into the room. I live in San Diego CA and there are some days that are hot and dry where this cooler works wonderfully to cool down the temperature in the room. My cat loves it and I am very glad I bought it. I really have to thank all the positive reviews I read about this cooler because I probably would not have tried it at all without the spot on positive reviews listed here. It's also a great deal. I have a friend who brought a similiar cooler for a much higher price tag. I have no regrets and I'm using the Cooler almost every day this summer.

Perfect for small apartment -- 2010-08-12
We needed an air conditioner for a small East Village apartment in New York City for one of our kids going to school there. The apartment windows are on the south side. The alternative to this kind of portable unit was to have (and pay) for the installation of a window bracket and still buy a unit - so we gave it a try. It does a great job given the windows allow the blast of hot sunlight in the afternoon (curtains are bound to help).

There is NO issue with water drainage when it is just being used as an air conditioner. The unit auto-evaporates as it works. According the the manual you only need to worry about drainage when you have it in dehumidifier mode. NYC is plenty humid in the summer and there has been no problem with the unit - which is humming along 24/7 for two weeks now.

It is wonderful not to have a window blocked with an air conditioner box - or to worry about taking it out for winter (or covering well enough to keep out the cold). Things that would improve this unit: include small screws with nuts instead of sheet metal screws to attach the exhaust conduit to the plastic window 'sleeve' - and toss in the box some standard foam window weather stripping to pad underneath the window-sleeve.

Ineffective -- 2010-08-11
I bought this unit to cool a small living room. I've had it for a a little over a month and have tried a number of the suggestions referenced and it still doesn't do a great job. It cools the room a couple of degrees after running for 2 or 3 hours. We have a window unit (LG) that is 5,000 BTUs and does an incredible job in the room. I wouldn't waste the money on this. If I could return it, I would.

Love it so much, I'm getting another! -- 2010-09-03
I like this air conditioner so much that this is the first review I've ever written for amazon.com, and I'm buying another! It has all the bells and whistles, digital thermostat, programmable to increase temp in slight increments through the night, remote control, is quiet and is an Energy Star. It's not quite as compact as I hoped, but it's far from the behemoth it replaced!

Nice and quiet -- 2010-08-16
The Frigidaire 6000 BTU Mini Compact Window Air Conditioner works very well and is very quiet. Its small size enables it to fit most windows.

Didn't realize the size -- 2010-08-30
I received the item and was all right with it I found it a bit bulky and I had to raise it closer to my window because the coil attachment that went from the unit to the window was a few inches short and kept pulling out of the window, this was beginning to frustrate me. I had to place the unit on my cedar chest to be able to enjoy it. I feel like all of the air is raising to the ceiling and not straight out into my bedroom because of the short coil that came with the unit.
Otherwise, it does cool my room a little longer than usual if it were a little closer to the floor. If someone can tell me where I can find a longer coil to go from unit to window this would make me very happy.

Not very good -- 2010-08-25
This thing just isn't worth the time or money so I suggest you pass on it. Well made unit and I've owned mine for several years. Used it for a while to cool part of my 250 ft houseboat. It would really only cool the very back of it. It's big and clunky and not real quiet. One problem is the compressor is inside of course and you hear it. The REAL problem is that it doesn't really cool. It seems to blow cold air but NEVER cools down the room.

Anyone want mine?

Poor Cancellation Process -- 2010-09-03
Ordered AC and when the shipping date was 11 days instead of 3-5 days, I planned to immediately cancel and find somewhere else. I hit the cancel button which was an available option, within 15 minutes and it then told me I could not cancel because it was being prepared to shipped. Why have a cancellation process if it won't work 15 minutes after the order is placed? Not happy. I plan to return on principle and eliminate Amazon from my life. Too bad, I buy a lot of stuff from them.

Solid ac unit -- 2010-08-30
I don't have a lot of experience with window a/c units, but this little guy seems to do alright. I moved to Brooklyn recently in the midst of mid-90s heat, into an apt with 0 a/c. Units were sold out all over town (except in overpriced specialty stores) so I had this unit rush delivered. The quality seems pretty good, given the relative low cost. I have this installed in my bedroom and it keeps the entire room chilly (68 F) on the lowest fan setting. Another plus is that I've not been bothered by any water dripping inside or out of the unit, which has been a problem of mine in other units.

The one negative I have is the loudness of the lowest setting. I wish there was another setting lower that was a bit quieter.

Pleasantly surprised! -- 2010-09-02
I bought this unit after reading a lot of reviews on 12,000 BTU portable air conditioners. It had very good reviews (for the most part) but since I had once owned a portable several years ago, I didn`t expect much from it. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this unit cooled a large upstairs bedroom in mid August without much ado. The controls are laid out well and easy to use, the unit is relatively quiet, and it has an adjustable air vent for directing the air up or out.
If there was one thing that could be vastly improved upon, it would be the window vent adapter. Although it`s quick to put together, there are no foam gaskets on the pipe attachments or around the adapter ends. This leaves cracks in those areas that (albeit small) let outside air in. You`ll have to do a little silicone sealing and weatherstripping to get an air tight seal in both areas.
In summary, this unit does a great job for a fair price. It even has a heater mode which although I haven`t used yet, is there if I should need it. Based on previous experiences with portable A/C units, I`d say this one scores high marks.

Takes the Edge Off -- 2010-08-18
Do not expect that this machine will turn your house into an icebox.
Do not expect this machine to make ice cubes.

Expect this machine to take edge of the heat.
Expect this machine to make life bearable.
Expect this machine to be reasonably loud.
Expect this machine to be used a lot.

Set your expectations right, and you will not go wrong.

We use this in the front of our house, with an open corridor, and it manages to cool the front room just fine, despite the room not being closed off fully. We also have high ceilings.

This is a quality product. It may be hard to sleep with the noise at full blast, so do as the instruction manual suggests and run the machine 1-2 hours before you sleep.

Set your expectations right, and you will not go wrong.

Takes the edge off -- 2010-08-16
We got this unit about a month ago and have been using it as needed to help fight the high heat days we've been seeing more and more of this summer on the East Coast. It's our temp fix until we make the jump to central air or mini split AC next spring. The room that this is located in is a living/dining "great" room that is approx 26'x16'. I've measured the temperature of the air coming out of this unit and it's about 63F. We've been running this unit for 12-14 hours a day and it keeps the temps in the room around 82F (I should note that we get full sun and even with the blinds closed the room still gets quite hot during the day). We never intended for this unit to chill the room to 68F but rather to just take the edge off of the temps and to take some of the moisture out of the room. This unit does that quite well and I should note that we've not yet had the "water full" light come on even after it's been running for so many hours per day..

The units are working great - quiet and cool! They are small enough to be removed for winter, too!

Small window air conditioner -- 2010-08-23
Easy to install. Works very well. If it had been any larger I (senior citizen) would have had trouble installing. It cools my small condo OK up here in Maine. In Arizona it would have been under-powered. All in all a very nice unit.Free shipping for this heavy unit from Dallas all the way to Maine - Wow!
