 | Hunter Fan Company 44360 7-Day Energy Star Programmable Thermostat
Easy to Use***BUT ONLY IF YOU READ THE BOOK**** -- 2010-03-08 This thermostat was a really good investment for the $40 price.
For starters, it was RIDICULOUSLY EASY to install. I'm just your average Jane, and I was able to install this thermostat simply by following the instructions in the manual. Installation was a no-brainer.
I haven't had the thermostat long enough yet to be able to say whether it's saving me money on heating bills, but I appreciate the control this thermostat gives me. I was able to program the thermostat so that the heat is on a lower setting at night when I'm sleeping and at times when I'm not home during the day. You can actually make a unique program for every day of the week if you want to.
Programming the thermostat was really easy, by the way. Just like installation, all you have to do is read the manual and follow the simple instructions.
***The key here is that you must actually read the instruction booklet for this product. My husband didn't read it, and he finds the thermostat confusing. DUH. I suspect that other people who have posted reviews saying that this thermostat is confusing have also not read the book. You gotta take 10 minutes and READ THE BOOKLET, FOLKS.***
The only gripe I have about this thermostat is the same one that others have reported in these Amazon reviews: The thermostat backlight is really annoying. I wish I had the ability to turn it off and on with a switch.
(Others have also written that the batteries fall out of the thermostat when you open the cover. I have not had this problem.)
Overall this product was a really great value.
Good while it lasted -- 2010-02-01 I purchased two of these less than 5 years ago. The flimsy hinges on the lift up panel broke on one unit after less than a year, so it's been duct-taped in place since then. And now the programming functions on one are completely non-functional (yes, I checked and replaced the batteries, so that is not the cause). None of the programming buttons work anymore. So, I am going to have to replace it after only about 4 years of usage. I won't be replacing it with the same one.

 | Whirlpool 8212502 Dehumidifier Drain Hose
Hose by any other name -- 2009-08-18 I purchased this to attached to my Frigidare de-humidifier, it's a hose, so what can I say other than, it does it's job and isn't too flimsy.
Whirlpool Drain Hose -- 2008-12-16 The hose leaked at the point where it is crimped to the fitting. As a result, it never drained through the hose itself. Horrible, shoddy construction and a waste of money.

 | Frigidaire FAX052P7A Window Unit Air Conditioner
Badly Dented -- 2009-09-24 I sent this air conditioner back because it was caved in on one side. Definitely did not happen in shipment as the box was intact. Had to go thru the trouble to return it. Amazon made the return easy but I still had to drive this thing to the Post office and place it on the counter! FUN! I would only buy an air conditioner from a store but I guess the same thing could have happened there. The box looks fine, then you get it home, cut the whole box open and find that it's caved in on one side! I received an email from Amazon that I should be receiving my refund shortly.
Cool Running -- 2009-09-09 I like the air conditioner. I was nervous from reading the reviews that it would be very noisy, but it seems no noisier than any other air conditioner.
I have a "cage" around my window (bars, which are commonplace in city apartments) so I needed something super shallow. This one was far too deep, but I did something that the manufacturer probably wouldn't recommend: I duct taped all the vents that would be inside my apartment and then used insulation around the screens and in the window to make a barrier. I was afraid that this might reduce the effectiveness of the unit, but it has worked fine all summer, even in very hot and humid conditions.
Though I wouldn't mind it being even colder, the BTUs are appropriate and my room is very cold. I would recommend this air conditioner as one that works well and has moderate noise -- even when jury-rigged.

 | Frigidaire EA108T Through-the-Wall 18 Inch Sleeve Kit
Abt said required, but not what I needed -- 2009-03-22 I bought this product from Abt after they told me on the phone it was required for a Frigidaire FASxxxxxx installation. They were wrong. The FAS family of A/C's are 18" high, this box is approx 14" high. The FAS family can be installed through a wall without a sleeve, the A/C metal outside is a sleeve in itself. The sleeve sold here is for a masonry wall.
I was replacing an existing through the wall unit with another. The new unit was all I needed. This sleeve was a waste as well as the $23 I spent to return it.
Abt gave me bad advice. I'll not use them again
Verry useful kit -- 2009-03-16 Be forewarned!!!. Cutting into your wall is not a simple task.
This is NOT a window box it IS a kit to install a window unit through a wall you Will need to create a hole in the wall to put this through.
I've installed kits like this a few times it's a wonderful idea for a pertinent installation of what is normally considered a tacky yet important appliance.
Things you should know before starting this project.
Location of studs. (you will need to put this box in between studs never cut through a stud to install this device. If the stud spacing is to small consult a professional before you attempt an install. or risk you whole wall collapsing with half your roof.) if you must cut through a support you will need a double header and footer around the box.
Location of outlets and wires inside the wall
(You don't want to cut through any wire/pipe in your wall so don't put this OVER a plug as most plugs are dropped in from the attic or above(even if you live in a trailer.)
Ok dangerous part over with. :)
These last few items and hints are just for looks.
1. Get some molding to go around the exposed edge.
2. Have some foam or flashing to put on the outside of the box or risk water inside the wall in storms (basic stuff)
3. Have all the tools you'll need BEFOR you punch that hole in the wall.
4. Have a friend on standby just in case.
Not all kits will have molding or (make pretty) bits a bobs so expect to go to a home supply outlet of some-sort
Installing these isnt all that hard a proficient carpinder can do it in under an hour. But expect to spend most of the day on it. think weekend project take it slow.
Oh ya almost forgot.
run the AC on a flat surface for a while BEFORE you start in on the box and figure out how much of an angle you will need to insure the blasted thing drains OUTSIDE! and i mean let it run for a while it takes upwerds of 5 hrs to get a liquid buildup enough to drip.
Depending on the kit itself and your local humidity you may need to drill in a drain hole near the back of the kit (NOT THE AC) the kit! don't go drilling into your AC
Tools i used.
Tape Measure
Level
Drill
Hammer
nails/screws
Screwdriver bit for drill.
Saws-all
Flashlight
dust mask (drywall dust and junk)
screw driver (for where the drill wont catch)
old sheet/tarp
drill bits. one big one for starting the saws-all
(double header)
one to two 2x4's
Ripsaw (hand saw circular saw .. something to cut the 2x4)
LONG nails and or wood screws (DO NOT USE DRYWALL SCREWS)
Spare Drywall the hole inside will probably be larger than the required size for the box if you have to make a header. (drywall make pretty junk)
To make your life a little more easy use some header hangers (steel strips to hold up the header instead of just nails.
to create the header.
open the wall back untill you can see 3 studs
Cut the center stud out to the apropret gap.
Cut the 2x4's to the length to span the gap between the 2 outer studs you will need 4 of these.
Check your fit
Screw the 2x4's together lengthways to make them 4x4's
Use the hangers or nail in these new headers to the other studs and secure the center stud to the header. the connection point to the outer studs is the important part.
Pick where you want your box cut the outer hole and install.
Patch Drywall make it nice and install molding around the box slide the AC plug it in and enjoy the cold air. :)

 | SPT SF-608R Portable Evaporative Air Cooler
Does the job well -- 2010-03-02 Got this to cool my bedroom, because if it gets windy I can't open the window unless I want the wind to take it lol. Added some water, tray of ice and it got the job done fast and nice. When I am not using water, I pop a ice pack on the top compartment and it still cools the bedroom just as good :)
expensive fan -- 2009-10-25 side by side with a fan showed no output difference. loaded up with ice and water and noticed very little difference. Wish I had returned it within the 30 day period. Oh well it is a quiet fan

Air Conditioner -- 2009-10-03 J\I wanted ont that can be mounted through the wall, not in a window; this one was adapted for that use and it works very well.

 | Honeywell RUVBULB1/C UV Lamp Replacement Bulb
Honeywell UV Light -- 2009-09-24 We installed a UV unit in our home to help keep cold and flu germs at bay. My son has seasonal asthma so anything to keep the air cleaner from environmental airborne particles is great. We used it last season, and found that it did help. I noticed that when one of us got sick the other family members did not so I believe it helped. At least it help me cut down on the lysol I sprayed around the house.

 | Indoor Air Conditioner Cover (Beige) (Medium - 15 -17"H x 22 -25"W x 2"D)
Massachusetts Winter Worthy - Saves My Husband's Back -- 2010-01-20 My husband has injured himself repeatedly this year, so when it got unexpectedly cold unexpectedly quickly, I asked him to please leave the air conditioner alone, and I ordered this thing. It arrived the next day.
It's a quilted thing with some tape sealer, and I thought - wow - this will never work. But it does. No drafts. No leaks. Got it quickly and it works great.
Great product -- 2008-11-26 I'm very pleased with this cover. It is very well made and fits well. It even looks nice. I'm glad I bought it and would recommend it highly.
