Found the best price on Amazon.com, searched Lowe's, Home Depot and even Hunter's website. They were easy to find when searching Hunter replacemenet filters on Amazon. They arrived very fast, even though we used Super Saver shipping and it was supposed to take longer. We got two; (3) months worth of filtering from this one Carbon Pre-filter purchase (you have to cut it to size)and it works out great when changing the main filter every (6) months (see other review). And best of all, my previous purchases are saved on Amazon, so when I need to reorder, it's a snap! Hope this helps someone.....
Hunter Pre-Filters for Hunter 30715 -- 2010-06-05
I received genuine Hunter pre-filters purchased from Amazon. Someone reviewed they didn't receive Hunter filters and it was thinner than the original. That was not the case with my order, maybe they ordered from one of the third party sellers... These are thick. The package say it's enough for at least 2 filters, you trim to fit. Surprise for my model which is a tower vs the box type, there are two 1/3 pieces left after cutting 2 filters, meaning after the 3rd change I'll have enough to easily piece together a full filter. It was interesting to note that the air was noticeably fresher after about the first hour, in the same way that was noticed when I first got the purifier. I wasn't completely convinced about the odor fighting claims with these carbon filters but the freshness was very noticeable after the change. This was my first pre-filter change and the old was covered in thick dust/crap. Kind of interesting to see THAT much stuff is floating in the air. I was a couple days past the change indicator on the purifier, and it was definitely ready to be changed. I went with Amazon's 4 for 3 deal, so I'm stocked up for awhile.

I received this Hunter fan from a neighbor; so I didn't do any comparisons to others. However, the fan makes a tremendous difference in my allergy relief. I recently got a dog who sleeps in my bedroom. Because I have allergies, I keep the fan running all the time. The filter is easy to replace. Amazon ordering makes it super easy and less expensive. Best deal I found by far. The fan seems pretty solid (been using 6 months continuously with no problems). The only thing I do not like about the fan is that it has a blue light and an orange light that come on when it's running. First of all, I don't know what these mean because they aren't labeled (there are symbols, but those don't clearly indicate the function). I don't have the instruction booklet and it's not labeled anywhere on the unit. I think the blue indicates when HEPA filtering is activated. What's most annoying about these lights, though, is that I have to cover them at night because they give off too much light into the room. I would prefer no light or a dimmer one.

Better options are available. -- 2010-08-11
This Hunter isn't horrible, but there are other options that are better. Check out reviews at Air Purifier Power -- I am not affiliated with that site, I just found it while shopping around and the reviews are unusually detailed.
For me, I ended up returning this Hunter and getting a RabbitAir unit. It's more expensive up front, but its maintenance costs are significantly less than the Hunter's, and the RabbitAir's quality is much better. I ran the Hunter for a few days, and it was okay. I ran the RabbitAir one night, and it was much better. And the RabbitAir is significantly quieter.
Also, there are some other brands that offer cheaper alternatives and still are better than this Hunter... I'm thinking Sharp and Whirlpool--a friend of mine has a Whirlpool and swears by it.
The Air You Breathe -- 2010-08-10
The vascular surgeon I work for placed this model's bigger cousin in the surgical procedure room in our office. Loved the results! Some of the surgical dressings we wrap patient's legs with post procedure drift small sized lint and fibers as we use them. The Hunter Air Purifer got rid of them.
When my asthma kicked up this year and I had to take an extended medical leave my lung specialist encouraged the use of an air purifer especially in the bedroom. I purchased this Hunter model. I have had it for 2 weeks and love the results! We have 3 cats and the resulting dander and hair, plus the usual room dust. They have really decreased since the Hunter was installed. I love the "white noise" and my husband has no complaints about it either. It is not as loud as fan noise on a medium setting we have had in the bedroom previously. As it has a HEPA filter, I know replacement filters will cost more, but should be worth it. A HEPA type air purifer was the only one recommended by my lung specialist to reduce room allergens.
I plan to purchase a second unit prior winter to place in the laundry room where the litter boxes live.
At Amazon's pricepoint and SuperSaver or Prime shipping I am recommending it to all our patients with asthma/allergies.
I told my surgeon boss about how much it has helped me and he purchased three more of the larger units, one for each exam room, so the dust will be reduced for me.
P.S. For cat lovers: Recently I began using a new cat litter Worlds Best Cat Litter 17 lb Originaland have really been pleased with it. No dust(silica dust from clay products, this one is a corn product) when you pour it into the litter box, the best odor control ever, and much less tracking. If you have cats and allergies/asthma I highly recommend checking into this litter.

This is the actual Hunter brand filter, and it is much better than the other cheaper knock-offs. The no-name filters don't work nearly as well. You really do get what you pay for.
Great Product -- 2008-12-12
I have a roommate that smokes in the house. I do not agree with it so we confined the smoking to her room. I still could not stand it, so my Aunt gave me her air purifier and I bought the Filter. I reccomend both of these products.

Usually I think companies try to gouge their customers with expensive proprietary consumables. That is not so in this case, and I appreciate it. I'm glad to be able to stock up on these filters without breaking the bank.
One sheet yields seven filters to fit the Hunter 30747, a tall unit that was sold in twin packs at Sam's Club a couple years ago. I also get scraps from the sheets that have been useful for creating guards across the bottoms of doors (to help block out odors from a housemate -- don't ask!). They should also work as replacement filters for the cat pan.

hunter 30090 is 1/3 the cost----same specs as 30083 -- 2010-09-04
30378 is excellent air cleaner and deodizer. Includes built in ionizer, which i can use for a while then turn off. prefilter comes clean by vacuuming with hand held vacuum-----i need to clean filter about every 2 or 3 days. initially i had to clean prefilter every day.---air smells wonderfully clean. as far as i can see,,hunter 30090 does same thing for about 1/3 cost of 30378. Other observation--Surround Air is more expensive at $180 dollars----but has uv light, nano particles and lots of high ratings. I am happy with quality of holmes 30378---seems to clean about 500 sq ft. if i need another purifier, i will consider permament hepa filter models and uv features and nano particles. FYI----HUNTER CADR(CLEANSING EFFECTIVENESS IS 260/260/260. When i purchased i considered CADR AND ROOM SIZE VERY MUCH.
BREATHE BETTER AND SPEND LESS -- 2009-12-06
I've been running the older version of this air purifier 24 X 7 for over 10 years...maybe 12. It is backed up against a wall in a vaulted-ceiling room between a piano and organ where cats like to play. It takes up very little space and consumes a great deal of dust and hair. The exhaust blows straight up the wall which is perfect for this location. Recently, it began emitting a high-pitch, undulating squeal. I assumed that the sealed bearing on the motor shaft was wearing out. So, I ordered this new Hunter Air Purifier. In the mean time, I placed the old squeaky cleaner on its back and soaked the motor shaft with CRC Heavy Duty silicone spray while turning the shaft with my hand for 5 minutes. That was a month ago and it is still running as smoothly and quietly as new. The new cleaner is still in the box, however, I did test it to make certain that it was in good working order.
How would you like to save a ton of money?
Just like printer companies sell their printers at a bargain and then charge a fortune for the ink cartridges, air-cleaner manufacturers employ the same tactics with their disposable filters. Check their prices. OUCH! $30.00 to $60.00. For years I've been using the same pleated, high-efficiency filters that I use in our central heat and air system. I buy them by the case lot(12), online from ACE Hardware for $4.00 each (free shipping to store) and cut them to fit the Hunter Air Purifier. ACE runs frequent sales.
Now, how about the expensive charcoal-pre-filter? Check out the universal replacement pre-filter 38002. They cost about $10.00 each. I have found them in bulk for as low as $8.00 apiece. Cut them to fit. Even the leftover pieces can be easily connected with the enclosed male strips of the hook & loop (Velcro).
Of all the air cleaners running in our home, this Hunter is the least expensive to run 24 X 7 because I can make alternative filters. This is not the case with the large barrel-shaped cleaners and filters that circulate air 360 degrees. When the barrel-shaped air cleaners die, I replace them with these Hunter wall-huggers.
When my back is against the wall, I don't go to the mall. I look for a bargain. That usually begins with Amazon.Com.
