I decided to purchase a new tower fan after my Sharper Image tower fan started making some unpleasant noises. Although it still works after about 10 years, it was hard to sleep with the noise.
After doing some research I decided to purchase the Lasko. I would have given the Lasko a 5 star rating; however, I am disappointed in the quality of workmanship in this and many other products today. The fan has manufacturing blemishes on it that at first I thought was damage to the fan. Also, when I received it, the back seam was "pulled apart." Fortunately, we could snap it back in place, but for the price, you do expect that this would not be necessary. I am also somewhat disappointed with the remote. It is not sensitive like my old remote on the Sharper Image fan. You absolutely must point it correctly to make changes to the fan. It is a little hard to do in the dark.
The above points aside, so far, the fan has worked properly and goes through all of its cycles fine and is quiet. The fan was very easy to assemble and the instructions were clear. I just hope that it lasts as long as my old fan and I will be perfectly happy.

This fan is fantastic! Blows cool air all the time...in a shaded room anyway! Even when it's hot out! I moved from my dark living room last week into the sunny kitchen and could not believe the difference! Thought the AC was on in the living room but it wasn't. Great fan...I went back and bought a second one!

Does exactly what it was advertised to do. I put it in front of my floor air conditioning vent and it cools the entire room much quicker.

I purchased this fan from the reviews of others. I had purchased another fan last year and wanted to get a second one but it was no longer available. So I purchased this fan and like the other reviewers have said it is a great fan. I needed one for the basement in my workshop and this fan really puts out the air. It is an air mover. You can feel the air from 30 feet away. The remote control is a plus. I would highly recommend this fan.

I really didn't think of this fan as anything more than adequate and it had a rattle on high until it came time to clean it. I have never encountered an easier fan to disassemble, you don't even need a screwdriver! The little plastic tabs that hold the front guard securely in place snap loose with minimal direct pressure towards the center of the fan. The blades and rear guard have plastic retainers that screw off and on with ease. Once I reassembled the fan and tightened the blade retainer just a little more than before disasembly, the rattle on the high setting disappeared completely. I run it without the guard when nobody is around for vastly improved airflow efficiency (the low setting without the guard puts almost as much wind as high with the guard on). Before somebody comes over the guard is easily re-installed in under a minute.
Cheap construction, good air flow -- 2010-06-30
I got this fan because the air conditioning in the house doesn't work well in my room. And in the southern heat and humidity, cool air at night and during the day is a must. The instructions were very easy to follow. However, the construction and sturdiness of the fan is questionable. The base is not screwed into the base, but rather just sits in the hole of the base. The same goes for the motor, which just sits on top of the post. Also, the locking cap on the post doesn't work well. I thought I had it nice and tight at my desired height, but a few minutes later the fan and post dropped to the lowest setting. I had a hard time holding the fan up and tightening the cap at the same time. Also, attaching the fan cage was difficult, since it is plastic and bends easily. As for the air flow from the fan, it is okay. It moves the air well and strongly. And the fan doesn't make any noises when it oscillates. It is loud, though. I had to put it on the low setting while on the phone. I hope I can sleep with it on. The cage is attractive, looking like it has a leaf-like design. Overall, it's an okay fan. It's cheaply constructed and loud, but then I only need it for a couple months. Whether or not I take it with me when I move again has yet to be decided.

We purchased a few of these fans about 2 years ago for our townhouse. We don't have central A/C, but needed something for the 1-2 months of heat that we get here in SoCal.
Pros: It does actually blow air with a lot of force, and circulates the air around the room.
Cons: It tips over way too easily - I have a 2 year old + cats and don't feel safe using it around them, even on hardwood flooring. The front of the casing of the fan broke on two of the three fans we have - there was no way to repair them so I had to throw them out. This fan is not "whisper quiet" as advertised. It's only quiet on the low speed. It takes up a lot of space and has a large "footprint".
Overall, I was really disappointed, especially given the price. I would not recomment this fan. I plan on trying the Lasko 40 inch tower fan - it's much cheaper, more stable, and has received good reviews.
I would not purchase this fan if you have kids or pets, due to the instablity of the stand. It seems really dangerous to me.

The power of this fan is great, the design is great, I really like how high it is off the ground. It will keep you cool. But when I got mine it stunk. For weeks it stunk. It had a burning plastic or maybe some kind of burning lubricant smell after it had been running for awhile. It was really bad and really annoying considering I paid a hundred bucks for a smelly fan. I was so ticked off I put the fan out on the back porch with my dogs and left it running on high for a week straight. I was just going to leave it outside but I thought I would check and see if the smell had finally worn off and it had. So now the fan is back in my workout room where it belongs and it no longer smells like its burning. Maybe I just got a overly lubed fan or something because I didn't see anyone else mention this problem. So anyway its a really great fan but if yours stinks put it outside for a week or so and it should be fine.

both to create some sound so I can sleep better, and to keep me cool. It does a good job of both. Sometimes I use the timer like an alarm clock and set it to shut off around the time I want to wake up. I hear it shut off and it catches my attention enough to wake me up. I like it.

Wow - I'm very disappointed with this fan's performance! I have several excellent Hunter ceiling fans that I'm very happy with. Based on that experience I ignored some warnings that other customers had posted and bought this model 90121 oscillating pedestal fan anyway. Yes it's a hassle to assemble but if you take your time it's no big deal and yes the directions are somewhat lacking but the major issue is it just doesn't move much air. It makes a lot of noise but no air flow. Heed my advise and look for another manufacturers product.....you will be happy you did so.

I was very impressed with the quality of this fan durring assembly, after assembly we turned it on and it makes a very loud clinking sound on oscillating on every turn cycle. I called Hunter customer service and they told me to return to Amazon. After contacting Amazon for a return, they want me to return it in original package which i destroyed unpacking it.. So I guess I will just deal w/the clinking.

I am not quite sure why others said that the remote doesn't work well for them, it works great for me from across the room. Maybe they should buy some new batteries for them. Anyway ordered this from Amazon for less then 30.00 and the first one came to me broken. Amazon was very good about shipping me a new one and it has been an excellent fan. It just so happened that I bought this fan a week before my central AC went out in my home. It was very nice to have it available. It works very well and was a bargain.

we have 1 of these fans in each of the bedrooms in our house. We leave them on low all the time, since our bedrooms are upstairs and (because we have 1 zone central A/C, the upstairs is always warmer than downstairs ) we can set the A/C a couple of degrees warmer and still be comfortable in the bedrooms. The remotes come in handy for when a front comes through overnight and the temperature drops, we don't have to get up to turn it off. Although mostly, we turn these fans on in June and shut them off in September. I've seen other brands that weren't able to stand up to 4 months continuous use, and we have had many fan motors (other brands) seize. Looks like these are of high quality. They move a decent amount of air on "low" and are still quiet. When on Medium or high, they really move a lot of air.

I needed a fan and didn't want something cheap, but of course I didn't want to pay $100 for a fan. I checked reviews and looked at the price and decided to try this. I have bought fans like this before and the feet of the fan have bent and caused the fan to be unstable, but this fan was perfect. I have had it for a few weeks and love it.
Impossible to Snap on Front Grill -- 2010-07-06
When assembling this fan, everything kind of puts together, except for the front grill. It is alarming that the neck doesn't actually snap in with the pole, instead it just kind of rests on top. So if anyone picked it up, the whole thing would fall apart. Also the front grill is impossible to snap on because the grill itself is crooked and doesn't correspond with the snap holes. I'm going to see if the manufacturer can send me a new front grill because with this one I only managed to snap a few of the snap points, with the rest of them being unable to (because the provided hole does not correspond with the snap). Next time I'll buy a little more expensive of a fan that is better quality.
