Fine iron! -- 2010-02-18
I bought this iron because of the great recommendation in Consumer Reports and because of the price. It's a wonderful iron! It's lightweight; the steam feature is excellent; and it does a fine job. The only tiny thing I can find fault with is the stiffness of the thumb dial which adjusts the temperature. I'd buy this iron again!

Wow ! A Great Iron...So Far -- 2010-02-11
While shopping for a replacement for our Shark Steam Iron I discovered that even the "best" irons (which I would have paid for) have major detractors. It seems most of these products are made in third world countries using cheap plastic that frequently fails (even the German brand has lots of complaints ) It seems few will last more than a year or two. Thus I picked a cheaply priced iron with good ratings expecting to have to replace it in the not too distant future. This B and D F1060 is performing beyond expectations so far. It's light, smooth to use, and all features are working well. I'll update this report if it fails within a year.

Great iron for a non-ironer! -- 2010-02-18
I am a guy, so ironing is about as low on my list of life-love's as it can possibly get.. and fortunately, I don't have to wear a lot of dressier clothes for work, so the need to iron is fortunately not ever-present in my life.

However, it seemed a bit archaic not to have one and there have been a few occasions where I really did need one, so this iron came into my life at just the right time. I like it because it's sturdy and well-built, it's fairly idiot-proof (i.e. with safety features that will prevent me from tipping it over/forgetting it's on and burning my house down). It really glides across fabrics and makes ironing as easy and enjoyable as is humanly possible.

The best iron is still either my mom (Thanks, Mom!) or my dry cleaner, but this is the next best thing!

quality product -- 2010-02-12
quality product at a reasonable price. i bought this iron to replace a costco rowenta product and was surprised. this iron has the weight and the feel of a rowenta unit at half the price. i like the led screen and the only knock is that it takes a minute to heat up.

Died after 18 months -- 2010-03-08
I expect an iron to last more than 18 months.

As usual Iron performed great up until it died. However, I expect more.

The last one died too. Doesn't anyone make anything that lasts more than a couple of years any more.

Really good iron at a great price. -- 2010-03-01
I have bought two of these one for my home and one as a gift. Both have worked out well. All the professional reviews gave it a good ranking so I bought one for myself. It heats up quickly and is heavy, it has all the possible settings you would need et cetera. It is sturdy and should last me the rest of my life. I liked it so much, and how often can you say that about an iron, that I also bought one as a gift. They needed a new iron, I had just bought my iron, and I said hey...I should get them the same iron. I mean I know that's a commentary as much on their need to iron as the iron itself but still. This iron is as nice as you can get without purchasing professional level merchandise.

Prompt service, fair price and a "HOT" product. Product appears to be as company advertised and reviews indicated. Should change "Amazon" to "Amazin'."

Excellent product!!! -- 2009-12-15
I am very pleased with the purchase of the traveling iron. It is excellent. Has a long cord which makes it easy to plug wherever you need to. Also heats quickly and well. Easy to pack.

Travel steam iron -- 2009-11-01
I bought this as a backup steam iron for travel but must admit I haven't had the need to use it other than when I first received it and tried it out. That trial was successful and I was pleased so I don't anticipate any issues once I really find the need to use it.

Black & Decker Digital Smart Steam IronBlack & Decker Digital Smart Steam Iron

Black & Decker steam iron -- 2010-02-15
When my more expensive Rowenta died, I purchased this Black and Decker Digital Smart Steam iron. I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT! It is lighter, steams better, and just runs circles around any other iron I have ever owned.
PS. If you are considering a Rowenta steam iron, save yourself the money and aggravation. They eventually begin to leak from the bottom. This also happened to my sister and her mother-in-law.

SOLID iron for the money -- 2009-12-16
I iron shirts for an elegant gentleman. This particular iron performs well every time. It never leaks, the weight is right, the nose of the sole plate fits into tight spots around the french sleeve and helps me deliver a beautifully pressed shirt! I have used many different irons over time, and this modestly priced one, fits the bill and never disappoints.

Don't Buy This -- 2010-02-05
I used this iron a total of five times after my previous iron (another poorly made Chinese product) would not even heat up after taking it out of its box. This Black and Decker Digital Advantage iron worked a grand total of five times before the digital display conked out. Now this iron will not even heat up as well. Unfortunately it is over a year and therefore the warranty is null. Ever since they moved their NC plant to China they have turned out garbage products! Don't buy this!

Better than most Ive tried -- 2009-09-16
I need to iron daily/weekly for my work. Basically Im an iron snob and have used all the brands (except Rowenta, I cant say that), but other quality irons...Tfal, etc. This has been working very strong for half a year now. By this time most start to leak and get fabric stuck on them. This has worked great and the ceramic bottom has worked really well on my clothes without getting things stuck over time. I highly recommend.

Black & Decker D5000 Digital Evolution Iron, WhiteBlack & Decker D5000 Digital Evolution Iron, White

Almost perfect -- 2009-03-24
This iron works great! I had the base model but it started to drip after two years. This one says "no drip" so I am hoping that is the case. It heats up fast, easy to use, swivel cord helpful, very light and it gets the wrinkles out on the first go over. Those are the pro's. The two con's are that you have to fill this iron while it is horizontal. You have to stand the iron back up to see how full the tank is. Minor inconvenience. Also, the cover to the water tank is flimsy plastic. Shouldn't be a problem if I don't mess with it alot.

EXCELLENT IRON -- 2008-09-09
I was given a high-priced Rowenta Duo Pro as a gift, and it was horrible. I did my research and this Black & Decker was well rated so I coughed up the cash and bought this one for myself. This is a great product, and everything the Rowenta is not.
1. The controls are easy to use, and the steam on/off switch is a nice perk.
2. The digital display is easy to read and results in accurate heat for different fabrics (unlike the Rowenta which was too cool at all settings except when turned all the way on).
3. The steam is a fine mist, not drippy (like the Rowenta).
4. The auto-off feature does not engage too quickly (30 seconds if left down and 8 minutes standing, instead of the random and frequent shut downs of the Rowenta), and is easy to override with the press of a button (instead of dangerous and leaky motion detector tilting and unplugging/plugging back in required by the Rowenta).
5. Finally, it sounds silly, but the comfortable grip and ceramic sole plate just make ironing easier--I didn't realize how hard I had to push on the Rowenta and how the awkward grip took a toll on my wrist until I got the Black & Decker. There is a similar Black & Decker iron that costs a little less, but the grip is not a comfortable and it has a stainless steel plate that just doesn't glide like the ceramic. Pay the extra $10 and get this one--it's well worth it!

Black & Decker D1700 Digital Edge 1500-Watt Iron with Ceramic SoleplateBlack & Decker D1700 Digital Edge 1500-Watt Iron with Ceramic Soleplate

Best buy for a state of the art iron, better than rowenta. -- 2009-11-27
Did a lot of research and found out that this iron is top notch. Had a rowenta that eventually went bad and it is no comparison to this iron. You don't need to spend a lot of money on a rowenta.

Great iron until bottom cracked off from being dropped -- 2009-09-17
Great iron, good steam and easy to clean. Love the auto shut off feature. Makes strange beeping noises sometimes though. Even was able to easily clean off the burned on melted carpet when my 6 yr old boy knocked it down and didn't tell anyone (hubby left it on and walked away). After numerous droppings onto the floor the base has now cracked off (duct tape didn't help) and even though it still works it's too much effort to hold the bottom in place while ironing. Too bad, love it.
