 | Danby Silhouette Low Temp Dehumidifier - 58 Pint Model DA DE 5806
no damp basement -- 2010-05-27 this dehumidifier is a little louder than expected, but quieter than many other brands, very nice unit
Beware Danby dehumidifiers -- 2009-11-05 We bought model DDR3008EE in 6/08, partly for its claimed ability to work down to 42 degrees F. It worked well at first, but in Fall 2008 ate a lot of power, and its anti-icing function appeared to stop working. We didn't use it over the winter. We turned it on in 7/09 and found its coils would not cool. Other than the fan blowing air, it was totally non-functional. A local shop confirmed that the coolant had leaked out. It took many calls to Danby just to finally get a human being instead of a machine. The man told me Danby couldn't help us as the 1 year warranty had run out. We paid $242 for this piece of junk. We won't ever buy a Danby product again.

Dehumidifier -- 2010-04-07 This is a great addition to my basement. When it is humid outside, I sometimes have to empty this twice a day. It helps in having mold form in the basement.
Seemed like a good unit, but may have some flaws... -- 2010-03-23 Ok, I did weeks of research trying to find a dehumidifier that would fit my needs. If you've been doing the same, you've probably realized by now that it seems as if every dehumidifier on the market is a piece of garbage and will break within a few months of purchase. At least, that's what it seemed like to me after reading countless reviews.
I have a partial sub-terranean condo in the boston area and part of it got really humid last summer, which caused some mild mold problems. I wanted to go into this spring/summer with a good dehumidifier to keep the unit dry and comfortable. The unit is only about 800 sq feet and the bedroom is the one room that is relatively under ground. So, I need to put the dehumidifier in the bedroom.
I needed a dehumidifier that was quiet enough to sleep with, and ideally can pump the water out into a drain so I'm not emptying a bucket every day. I had bought a 65 pint LG model last fall that worked great at pulling water out of the air, but it was very noisey. So I returned it.
I narrowed my choices to this SPT SD-60 model and the LG 45 pint model.
SPT Pros:
Unit was definitely quiet and I could have slept with it on.
Had a feature that would show the actual humidity level in the room in addition to setting what humidity I wanted
The hookup for the constant drain seemed to be secure, although I didn't get a chance to use it.
Unit looks very modern and stable
Good controls for using the system
SPT Cons:
The system does not seem to have a constant mode. It has a setting for it, but once the humidity got to 35 or 30, it turned off. Now, that may be correct, but..........
I don't really know for sure if the humidstat on the unit was accurate. So it kept turning off. I ran a test and turned on the LG 45 pint (I bought both at the same time to compare noise levels) and after about 2 hours the LG had pulled an inch of water from the air. The SPT didn't because it kept turning off. Now, that doesn't mean the LG worked better... its very possible that the humidity was already really low and it shouldn't have been pulling more water out, but it continued anyway. I will just warn that I had a hard time getting the SPT to continuously run and pull water.
Finally, another big con for me... although the unit was quieter than the LG, when it went into the fan mode it had more of a buzzing sound, which grew annoying. The LG is about as loud as a normal sized air conditioner, and when the compressor turns off sounds like a regular fan. More than adequate for sleeping next to. I would have been annoyed sleeping next to the buzzing of the other unit.
So, I decided to return the SPT. I think it could be a really good product and had more features than the LG, but in the end I think the LG was better for my living situation. If I were buying a dehumidifier for my basement, where I don't spend much time, I would probably have kept the SPT because of the auto-restart feature and the fact that it was a 65 pint vs 45 pint. Also, the LG has a 5 yr warranty. Something to think about if all these units break after 1.
Hope this helps. Oh yeah, another thing I couldn't get around... it seems like its impossible to find any of the higher rated items at a physical store to try out. Luckily for me the LG was available at a local hardware chain, so I didn't have to ship it back and forth. It makes it much more difficult to try a unit out for a day when it takes a week to arrive.

Inferior Water Bucket -- 2010-05-31 The bucket handle broke in half and then split the bucket itself when I was removing it to empty. I called the company hotline and was told that this was not considered a warranty issue, even though it occurred during normal use. Interestingly the replacement bucket they sold me had been redesigned with a new handle so they'd clearly identified this as a design defect. It's this type of non-accountability that gives companies a bad name.
Bad product and service -- 2010-05-02 We bought this unit in May 2010. It was noisy, but operated reasonably well until the end of the summer, when it was no longer drawing moisture and not draining at all. When we called to inquire about the service under the one year warranty, we were given three appliance repair places. We live near Philadelphia. The first place we called told us that they did not service ComfortAire products; the second place was in a section of the city that was neither close by nor safe to venture into without a police escort; and the third place was in Western Massachusetts, about 300 miles or more away (about an eight hour drive). When I indicated that none of these repair shops was possible, they said that they would find another place nearby and contact us themselves. They never did. So the product is unreliable and the warranty is worthless.

This works great! -- 2009-05-07 This "no brand" dehumidifier is a workhorse! It works exactly as stated and I am buying more! I purchase a Whirlpool dehumidfier that did diddly-squat. After four hours the bucket was dry as the Sahara. Their help line was no help at all. They said I was suppose to run it 24/7. Geez, why does the 'no brand' dehumidifier have water in the bucket in less than 2 hours? I live in the middle of a tropical rain forest, so I know humidity when I feel it!
Worst humidifier ever -- 2008-12-12 This is obviously a cheap no-brand product and it performs like one. I have returned it and am never buying "SPT" (Sunpentown) again.

 | Eva-dry Edv-1100 Electric Petite Dehumidifier with FREE Cleaning Cloth
Works well, until it doesn't... -- 2010-08-13 I bought one of these and then another a few months later. It is a very quiet, small and efficient dehumidifier. HOWEVER, one of mine would not longer work after about six months and the other after about 8 months. I suspect it is some problem with the cord, since when only one wasn't functioning if I plugged the cord into either they would turn on. Needless to say I wish I had put my $100 towards purchasing a more expensive model that I could use for longer than a few months.
don't bother -- 2010-07-16 in a humid basement it will remove a thimble full in the same time a real dehumidifier will remove a gallon. $50 dollars with shipping, but not even worth the electricity it costs to run. I would give it zero stars. haven't tried the cleaning cloth. maybe thats worth $50. The dehumidifier isn't worth anything.
