Got everything! -- 2010-07-24
Ok, my original review was that I mistakenly thought that the box arrived without a power cord or instructions. Because it's such a large box, I accidentally tossed the bag containing these things to the side and missed them (yes, I'm embarrassed, but it happens!).

The unit is plugged in and humming on the Max Airflow setting...Still quiet...Not 10 minutes and I already notice the air is clearing up :)

Solid, simple, quiet, effective -- 2010-04-23
The title pretty much sums it up... I took it out of the box, plugged it in, switched it on and don't really think about it anymore.
I live on a busy street and the air inside the house was very dusty.
With this thing running it is substantially cleaner ....
even when sunlight streams in I cannot see any dust in the air.
At highest setting it is audible but not objectionable. I keep it at max minus one and don't hear it at all.

It showed up with a small dent in the side, which I should have complained about but didn't.
The shipping package could have been better.

Rabbit Air BioGS AC Charcoal filter for (model SPA-421A and SPA-582A)Rabbit Air BioGS AC Charcoal filter for (model SPA-421A and SPA-582A)

Excellent Filter -- 2010-07-06
Charcoal is like a sponge, it stops absorbing odors when it's saturated. It will fill up faster with heavier loads because it literally runs out of physical space to trap the molecules.

I have a heavy load with three cats in a small apartment and my charcoal filters have lasted about a year. You can tell because they stop removing odors when the charcoal is saturated. Washing at that point only buys another week or so.

These ARE washable, you just have to make sure to follow the directions. They say to soak them in warm water with dish soap for 20 minutes (I like to use the bathtub because they don't fit in the sink). Then rinse thoroughly with cool water and let dry for 24 hours.

The last bit is very important! The filter will smell pretty horrible if you don't let it dry overnight, trust me!

I've tried bleach but it doesn't seem to make a difference...just use dish soap so you don't wreck your clothes!

It seems to be a complete tossup as to whether you get the plastic or aluminum frames. I have two Rabbits and it seems to be about 50/50. The aluminum is more durable, I wish rabbitair would allow you to specify which version.

I also wish these were easily refillable with aquarium charcoal. I've tried and it's just impossible to fill all the cells and put it back together without making an enormous mess. Maybe in the future...we can only hope.

These things don't ship well. DIY Skills needed! -- 2010-07-01
I've had my Rabbit Air filter for a long time. When I first installed the original filter, I had a problem where the frame opened just a bit and let some carbon escape. Not a big deal. It was just a small amount and I snapped the frame together. When I read a review saying that the frames were now aluminum, well they must have fixed the problem! Time to order!

Sadly, it looks like I've got the "New and improved" plastic frame. My replacement frame came with sound effects! I could make music with it now! Think of a giant carbon filter maraca. You can see some of the pictures I uploaded. The frame split in one corner and released a lot of the mouse poop looking carbon.

This isn't the end of the world though. With a bit of effort, you can herd the poop back into the plastic frame cells and snap the frame together again. The frame appears to have melted plastic "spot welds" to keep it together, and obviously one of these failed in mine. Without that plastic weld, the snaps for the corner popped open and released the hounds.

A DIY fix. Some herding. A bit of tape. But I shouldn't have to do this. I'm sure others would have returned it and given them 1 star. I did buy it from amazon, but it was sold/shipped from Rabbit Air. I hope they read this. Go back to the aluminum style!

Surround Air XJ-3000 Spare FilterSurround Air XJ-3000 Spare Filter

Surround air replacement filter -- 2010-09-04
This is the replacement filter for the surround air. After I had spent months doing research on different air filtration systems, I did not just look at infomercials. I decided on surround air because it had 5 levels if purification and sanitizing. It was not super expensive. It had a longer warrenty than most. And a very important detail is that it was not expensive to maintain changing filters and such, it turns out to be about $2.50 a month. That seems a fair price to pay for waking with a clear nose and no headache.

Awesome smoke eater -- 2010-06-29
Any air filtration system is only as good as the filters it uses. If your system takes these filters, you have about the best of the best for allergens, dander and smoke removal short of the condensing units used for commercial purposes. I think it might even do better than those smoke eaters in bars. The ion sanitation will really change the air in your place in less than an hour. I can't recommend this filter enough, my first one is still working perfectly 6 months later at 2 hours a day use.

Sharp FP-P40CX Plasmacluster Air PurifierSharp FP-P40CX Plasmacluster Air Purifier

regular filter (that is ok filtration, bad noise, regular usability) -- 2010-09-05
pros:
- silent in low flux mode.
- lights can be turned off.
- you can find relatively cheap filter replacements in amazon. (that means by less then a new unit :)
- filters are or washable or last 5yr. (really?)
- timer 2, 4, 8 hour.
- auto mode (air quality sensor --manual does not mention anywhere how it works)
- fast mode (10min high flux, then back to auto mode)

cons:
- like any other brand, sucks air from the front and trow it from behind.
- not silent in medium mode. very noisy on hight flux mode.
- charcoal filter is a joke. only cover 50% of the area due to bad design. (it's several horizontal bags, the charcoal goes to the bottom)
- some functions only accessible via remote control.

i would give it 3 starts, but there's nothing in the market that deserves 4 or 5 starts... this is a good buy if you take into account the state the air filter market is. there's no serious product at all.

btw, HEPA, as the term was used in the past, means that there's an air filter with aluminium sheets to force the air to zig-zap trhough the entire lenght. on the todays HEPA filters the air goes trhu the height of the filter.

real hepa filter:[...]

Changed my life -- 2010-08-28
I don't write reviews ever but I feel this is important to say. Ive had severe seasonal allergies to dust pollen, grass/trees, ragweed, etc for most of my life. Summers we're terrible, I would often wake up in the morning with an allergy attack and could never understand what I did the previous day to warrent it. I saw a groupbuy for this unit on a popular deals website and figured I would give it a try..I kid you not in the year or so that Ive had this unit I haven't had a single allergy attack. Is it just a coincidence that my allergies subsided at the same time that I plugged this unit in? I hardly think so. This definately does clean the air and if you have allergies I strongly suggest you try it out.

Ionic Pro CABR1 Mini Ionic Air PurifierIonic Pro CABR1 Mini Ionic Air Purifier

Odd smell -- 2010-08-10
I bought the mini ionic air purifier for my office. I have dust allergies and thought it would help. Unfortunately it emits an unpleasant, metallic odor. I believe it may be the ozone which other reviewers have mentioned. This odor gives me a headache and makes me feel ill. I have stopped using the mini air purifier and would not recommend purchase of it. I am now considering getting a more traditional air purifier which has a filter.

Hope this product works -- 2010-07-28
Amazon.com does not provide the dimention of products, so I was surprized that this product was so small. It makes noise when being on for a long time and that's a little scary. It's hard to tell if it works but I hope it does.

Airfree Onix 3000 Mobile Home Air Purifier Sanitizer Unit SystemAirfree Onix 3000 Mobile Home Air Purifier Sanitizer Unit System

It Works! -- 2010-01-13
I purchased this because my home contained visable mold and who knows what's hidden behind the drywall. In addition, the lower level of the home often had a funny smell (not really moldy, just funny, kind of earthy), and since I moved, the dog and cat are really itchy. I read one of the reviews for this product on another site where someone had a mold remediator come in 4 times and it didn't work, so I decided to try this first, since it's cheaper, and it is supposed to remove more than just mold. I plugged this in in the family room on the lower level. It originally gives off a mild burning smell that subsides after a few days. Soon, the lower level of my home had no more funny smells and both the cat and dog prefer to sleep in that room as opposed to all other rooms. I just ordered a second one for the mid level of my home and plan to get a smaller one for the bedroom. I'm very pleased with it. Don't know that it got rid of the mold, but it did get rid of the smell and both the dog and cat think it's doing a good thing, since they had no interest in that room prior to the Airfree. To me, that says a lot.
Ok, had to edit this because I got the second airfree for the living room level and that's been running about 2 weeks now. They say it takes a month to work, but my itchy dog, who had rubbed all the hair off her eye and had large scabs on her rear by her tail (the vet was the one who originally put the air purifier idea in my head) has stopped rubbing her face, her eye's no longer red and it appears that the hair's even making an effort to regrow and all the scabs on her rear are gone! She's not on any meds for this either so that's not the cause of her improvement. This is more than I could have hoped for. She's much more comfortable and will now hang with us in the livingroom. I just ordered a small one for my bedroom. Now we'll see how it does on my morningtime stuffy nose :-) Ps. still no funny smells on the lower level!

Not sure of effects yet -- 2009-12-07
I purchased this item October 24th. I had pneumonia and was concerned about air quality. I cannot tell if it is working, but I have left it plugged in because I have faith that it is probably working. I think I will have to do a test with a strawberry to see if it molds quickly, or have an indoor air quality person do a test, which will cost $400.

It is hard to tell if it works. It is true that it is silent and doesn't make the room any hotter or colder. It would be nice if there was something they could build into this product to measure air samples or something to show you it is working.

Horrible Waste. -- 2010-06-28
When we got this set, I loved it, and while it worked, it worked great. Both my son and I have horrible allergies and this kept us from suffering.

HOWEVER!! About 1 year after I dished out the $175 I paid for these units, one stopped working. I called customer support, who told me a replacement would be no problem, but tech support would have to call me back. Tech Support called a few hours later and was very heavily Indian accented, I had a hard time understanding, but after doing what he suggested, the unit still wasn't working so I called the direct number he gave me. He told me I needed to buy the extended warranty (2 more years) for $30. At first I thought this was great, until he told me then it would be $30 for them to send the unit back to me, after I paid to ship the unit to them... That means I would spend $90 on one unit to get it "fixed"! It was insane to me.

The other unit followed suit and died a few months later.

Please save your money and don't get this unit. It won't last.

Excellent value for the money... -- 2010-06-28
We live in an older building, which means we have mold. After the air conditioning system clogged and spilled water down the walls, we ordered this set. The package arrived withing four days of ordering. I think that is very prompt service.
The Ionic Pro Air Purifiers have reduced the dust, lint (in the sewing room) and odor in the apartment. The units are easy to clean, though we will be buying spare fins before Winter. They are so quiet, and do not interfere with sleep, conversations, or listening to TV or radio. The nicest asset is the lack of the musty, mildewed "aroma" we smelled every time we came in from the outdoors.
The bonus car ionizers do work, but we drive with windows down, so can't give an accurate assessment of their abilities. I would (and have) recommended this product to friends and family who have allergy-related problems.
Cordially, Nehmah

Awesome filter, no other filter comes close -- 2009-02-07
This is the gas and odor filter for the IQAir Healthpro PLUS. You can upgrade a HealthPro to a Plus (check IQAir's website for details). I just got the Plus to start with, and my wife and I are glad we spent the extra money upfront.
The filters seem pricey. THEY AREN'T. The filters last a stupefyingly long time. It filters some 200 gases including VOCs. I just used the filter to easily clear the air in minutes after spraying some Bissell carpet cleaner that has a ungodly strong "scent".
An IQAir Healthpro Plus saved my wife and I from suffering while several brush fires over the past few years have lapped at our neighborhood. Before having the IQAir, we both suffered gravely whenever brush fires were anywhere within 50 miles.
After two years of us raving about our IQAir, our next door neighbors (asthma sufferers) sought refuge in our home during the last fire which was a couple miles upwind and within sight of our house. One evening of easy breathing was enough to convince the cheapskates to pony up for an IQAir (and donate to charity their various Honeywell, Hunter and other big-box store joke filters scattered around their house).
