DeLonghi DE500P Energy-Star 50-Pint Dehumidifier with PumpDeLonghi DE500P Energy-Star 50-Pint Dehumidifier with Pump

Just dropped it in the trash can -- 2010-08-27
What a waste. After 13 months the pump failed (just as well it was very noisy). After 30 months I got the E3 code of death. Searched on line and could find no parts for what I am sure is a simple plug in condenser sensor worth a few dollars. The same problem so many have had. I took the covers off and was disappointing to see so many expensive parts in what seemed to be good condition headed for the trash because of poor design and poor customer service. When things can be well designed and be designed to be long lived and easy to repair DeLonghi should be ashamed of themselves and Costco (where i purchased the unit) should do better research of the products they sell.

This is a piece of junk! -- 2010-08-11
This unit worked for about as long as the warrenty period then quit. The pump works when it wants to. The control panel is difficult to figure out and God help you if you loose the directions, you'll never figure it out. Sorry I ever bought it.

works great -- 2010-08-10
This item works great and much quiter than my old whirlpool. I use it in my basement of 1050 sq. feet and there is no condinsation what so ever not even on the water lines, very satisfied.

Excellent dehumidifier for the price -- 2010-05-05
I was looking for a dehumidifier with over 50 pint capacity to replace the one in my basement that died after 8 years (a Kenmore). This one arrived a few days after I ordered it. I set it up within minutes. There were some reports indicating the water bucket was hard to remove but I found it pretty easy. I really like the fact that when it is running it displays the actual measured humidity in the room. There were also reports that it was loud. I use it in my basement (unfinished) so I didn't care about this. However, I found it to be quieter than my old Kenmore so I was pleasantly surprised.

Excellent product for the money. Air conditioner is far more efficient with a dehumidifer. We use it in our garage, makes a huge difference in the comfort of the room.

Great product! -- 2010-06-08
We had a Frigidaire unit that died after less than a year and bought this one. It works beautifully. On humid days it fills up in as little as 12 hours and keeps our finished basement very comfortable. It puts out less heat than the Frigidaire model as well, and the fan has three speeds. We couldn't be happier with this product. HIghly recommended.

DeLonghi DE400P Energy-Star 40-Pint Dehumidifier with PumpDeLonghi DE400P Energy-Star 40-Pint Dehumidifier with Pump

Pump sucks -- 2010-08-17
I have had 2 DE400P dehumidifiers - one lasted almost 2 years and one lasted almost 3 years. Pump malfunctioned in both cases. I expected better service from these units. Also, DeLonghi service centers are few and far between, so can not realistically expect factory-approved service. I will not buy another DeLonghi due to poor quality and lack of convenient service centers.

6 Years Now -- 2010-08-17
I bought this item in the fall of 2004 when I moved into my new home. I'll explain my experience and let you decide for yourself what you think.

The unit was placed in a basement area of about 22 x 25 feet and does a fine job of keeping the humidity down. We ran it through the fall. When winter rolled around and the humidity was low, I turned it off. When spring came around, it wouldn't run again. So, I called DeLonghi and had to ship the unit to their NY facility for repairs (I can't remember who paid shipping costs). The unit was gone about 3 months and was mailed back.

The service rep told me that I should never turn it off...that's why whatever broke (still wasn't sure what) broke. So, I turned it on and left it on. It pretty much ran maintenance free (except for vac'ing the filter every week or so and taking the entire case apart every year or so to vac out the inside) for the next 5 years. We had the pump run through a wall up overhead and to a sump into the unfinished side of our basement. No problem.

The switch on the reservoir doesn't work really well. We were getting constant "beep beep beep" alerts and the thing would shut off. As it turns out, it doesn't seat well and when the contact is broken, it shuts off the entire unit (why the reservoir needs to be in place when you're running in pump mode isn't clear!). So, I basically remedied the situation by taping the reservoir in tightly to maintain contact...which is fine except that every so often (maybe once or twice a month), the pump would trip off and the reservoir would fill and then I'd need to untape, empty and retape.

This year, after just short 6 years, I'm starting to have problems. The pump makes a horrific noise when engaged and the unit starts to get very hot. I'm not sure why. I relented to just using the reservoir, which in summer months fills up after about 24 hours (+/- a couple), which is okay, I guess, but I had to lighten up my taping job for practicality purposes and it does trip out quite a bit (like every time the kids bump it).

The float switch in the reservoir is now broken and I need to order a spare part ($5.95 and a ridiculous $11.95 shipping for a small plastic part that fits in the palm of your hand and weighs about a quarter of a pound?). Until I get the spare part, I'm down...because inexplicably, I can't run in pump mode (the horrible noise seems to be intermittent) because even the pump trips off if the reservoir switch isn't properly engaged (which again, makes no sense).

So, on the upside, it's functioned for nearly 6 years, which I guess isn't a bad life for an appliance these days....but not without it's quirks and issues. I think when it finally craps out, I'll go with another brand.

This dehumidifier is easy to use and works well. Plug it in, set the desired humidity level, and watch it pull water out of the air. No complaints.

Only 2 out of 11 actually worked more than 1 year -- 2010-07-27
I live in a hot humid climate and run a dehumidifier on each level of my cottage for the last 8 years. When they work, they are great. You can never get the same brand more than 2 years in a row. No one will fix them. I leave them on auto and they are piped to outside. Various "things" go wrong
ie/ quit drying at all, quit piping out water, quit completely. Mostly the latter. The first one I had (same unit, another name) lasted almost 5 years. The last 5 years they are averaging 12-18 months. There doesn't seem to be any other choices ...really frustrating.

not LG -- 2010-07-07
We purchased this unit 1 year ago from a Home Depot. Worked great last summer in our basement. This year, the coils continuously ice up. Brought it into a service center (1 hr+ drive round-trip drive from my home) under warranty who told me the unit worked fine for them! The icing started up immediately again when I returned home. Another call to LG (over 30 minutes on hold), and I was told I'd have to bring the unit back for repair yet again and that a replacement would not be made unless a manufacturing defect was determined by the service center. They admitted to me there was no threshold for the number of times I'd have to take it in for service before I'd be offered a replacement unit. I'm off to buy another brand and will steer clear of LG products in the future.
