Don't waste your money! -- 2010-07-21
This product is horrible! I bought it in May and it is now mid July- it is completely dead. I followed care/maintenance instructions and bought distilled water so that it might last longer. The refill light kept coming on and the tank was full. I had just been cleaned it a few days before. I took it apart the next day and my ultrasonic disc was corroded. I called Germ Guardian and they said the warranty is only 30 days and there was no replacement part. I lost $100 in less than 60 days. Do not buy!
Has Astounded Me! -- 2010-04-28
After much research on Amazon to find the perfect humidifier to deal with these dry Colorado winters, I still found myself undecided and exasperated. The repeated complaints about leaky units and poor performance across so many of the units is really what fueled my doubt. It seemed that the ratio of good reviews to bad ones was higher than most other products that I research on here.
Anyway, I happened to come across this unit at my local warehouse club at a good price and I decided on a whim to buy it. Not sure exactly why, but it probably had to do with the frustration described above. One was in front of me that had the features I wanted, so I went for it!
And am I glad that I did. I have been thoroughly impressed by this unit after about 8 months of regular use. The tank size is great, on the medium setting where I normally leave it at, I have enough water to last for 3-4 days. That is if I am feeling too lazy to change it which does happen sometimes. I sometimes use filtered water and other times tap water and I have not noticed a difference in the steam produced.
Speaking of tap water, the heating element of this unit collects much less mineral deposits than my old AirOSwiss unit did. I find that odd for some reason. The water where I live is pretty hard and yet I see a noticeable difference in the frequency of cleanings. This was an unexpected benefit but I will take it!
Thankfully, the kaleidoscope of bright colors on the LED is dimmable with the push of a button. I like having the clock feature and I find myself looking at my humidifier for the time more than my alarm clock. Also, the adjustable control over the steam is a nice feature that works well. I see a very noticeable difference between the different modes.
I suppose that the warm steam feature is the only one I don't think works well. The steam feels like virtually the same temperature as the cold steam unless you hold your hand right in front of it.
Overall, I'm very happy with the durability and performance of this little work house. I would definitely buy it again and strongly recommend that you do the same!!

I bought this when my wife was very sick, as our old humidifier wasn't doing the job. This thing sure does... perhaps too well.
The first night we used it on 75%, and it felt nice in our room (a small bedroom - about 15' x 15'. However, when we woke up, the floor near it was soaking wet. Fair enough, we thought, we had it too high. Tried again at 50%, still soaking wet. Too close to the ground, maybe? We put it on a table in our room, about 2.5 feet off the ground, and put it at 75%. Still soaked. 50% elevated? Still soaked. 25%? Not quite soaked, but still damp, and the humidity in the room was noticeably less than before. At that point, there is little point to even having it on, as it was not putting out enough humidity to get the job done without absolutely soaking the floor. After 7 days of that we decided to discontinue use for the time being. That's when we noticed the smell...
Our carpet had begun to mold where it was getting soaked. We had to rent a professional carpet shampooer to get rid of the mold and the smell.
So beware if you plan on using this in a carpeted room, but it does do a very good job at humidifying... perhaps too good?

I read a lot of reviews before purchasing this humidifier due to the fact that I had previously purchased two different humidifiers and both of them worked only 1 year. I had paid double the price for them as I did this humidifier. This humidifier works great! It is 10 times better than those I had bought previously. It is as quiet as I would expect and it outputs a lot of moisture into the air. It was exactly what I needed since I live in an environment where the air is very dry in my house in the winter months. I use this humidifier 24 hours/every day in the winter for 5 months straight and it doesn't miss a beat. I do recommend cleaning as recommended to keep it running smoothly. The items that need to be replaced frequently are very cheap and you can buy them directly through the company or here on amazon. Maintanance on your humidifier is a lot less expensive than buying a new one.

I got this humidifier after reading others' comments about it, and because it doesn't send a mist into the air. I need it for my piano studio, to maintain an even level of humidity for the piano. It works very well and is exactly what I was looking for. It is easy to refill the water, which I do every day, sometimes more than once. It does make a whirring sound from the fan, but I do not find it objectionable at all, even when I am playing the piano or teaching.

Beware - 2 weeks of usage caused mold! -- 2010-03-16
We bought this humidifier from Bed, Bath, and Beyond on January 1st because we had a 20% off coupon. It took us at least a month to get it set up in the nursery (our twins keep us busy), but once it was set up I thought it was super easy and convenient to refill the tanks. But after a couple of weeks I thought I smelled something funny, almost stagnant. The smell was subtle at first but persistent. Then when I was refilling the tanks one night I finally paid attention and noticed MOLD in the reservoir that the tanks lead into. We immediately took this humidifier out of the nursery. And to my surprise Bed, Bath, and Beyond let us return the unit even though it had been almost 90 days (but not quite) and my husband had accidentally recycled the box it came in. But I still had the original receipt so they accepted the unit. Therefore I would say do NOT buy this unit at all, but if you do then do NOT buy it from Amazon! Unless you know you will return it within 30 days within original packaging and don't mind paying return shipping...

This unit holds more water than advertized and puts a lot of vapor in the air when set on high. Much better than the filter types.

I agree with nearly all the reviews I've seen for this product. The good reviews are probably people who have owned their unit for less than a year. The negative reviews are probably owners of more than one year. I own four of these units and have used them for the last three winters. At first, all the units worked very well, no complaints at all. Then I noticed some strange deposits/growths around the water reservoir. We have a water filter system in our house, so our water is very clean and I did not expect to see things growing in the reservoirs. Per the instructions, I only used water and the tiny cleaning brush provided with the unit to clean everything up. Time after time, I have to scrub and scrape the junk that accumulates in the unit. This past winter, I noticed a slimy accumulation inside the mist chamber--yuck. I can't get at that with just the tiny brush and water. These units are going to be recycled this year and I'm not every buying Venta again.
Best humidifier in this price range -- 2010-07-31
It's quiet and produces a good flow of steam. But just like any steamer in its price range, you have to be fairly close to it to feel its effects because it doesn't propel the steam more than 4 or 5 feet. It's a bit awkward to refill; I often spill a little each time. I have used it for two winters now and it's still running.

I am really happy with this humidifier. It is our fourth humidifier in as many months... the others have all failed in one way or another and I was ready to give up! We wanted a humidifier for our sons bedroom and were going for all the cute looking kids ones - which do not work! I was starting to think that we were cursed or that there was no such thing as a good working humidifier..... until this came along.
I rate this one for a few main reasons.
1. It is so simple to use. No gadgets or settings.
2. It is so easy to clean and assemble.
3. It is super easy to fill - right from the top with no taking anything apart.
4. It is quiet and pleasant to have on.
5. It is sturdy and the water tank does not feel like it is going to crack every time you clean it.
There is one major con - it is pretty ugly. Not major in my book because of all of the above and because it does what it is supposed to do - which is the main thing. I told my son it was a space ship and he seems to have gone along with that - he is two so easy to please....
Don't hesitate to get this if what you really want is just a good reliable working humidifier.

It's not too quiet but it does help the humidity level in a small/medium room. I use this during the day to make the nursery better for my baby at night. I don't run it at night due to the amount of noise it makes.

This is a stupid, idiotic design shared by the whole line of these products. The fan sucks humid air through the fan turbine and the parts of the machine that are not accessible for cleaning. In a couple of months of use mold grows all over the inside, including the fan turbine blades. De-molding it is nearly impossible. So, great, now instead of breathing dry clean air you breathe moist air with mold spores.
All the fancy stuff they add to fight germs (UV light, ProTec cartriges) are a joke -- it does not help a bit.
I just cant figure out why the designers did not reverse the air flow, so that humid air goes through fewer parts so that when mold grows you can clean in easily.

I've owned this product for approximately 18 months and have experienced none of the problems mentioned in some of the other reviews. I would recommend this product.

This is a great device! air cleaner and humidifier in one. This has cut down on the dust and carpet dust in my home, I am only sad that there is no longer a US vendor to supply this as I would like to purchase another one.
