Awesome Machine for Novice and Beginers -- 2010-08-28
I purchased this 2yrs ago. After my ghetto singer died after 15yrs. It was my moms when I was a kid. I needed it for basic sewing. I liked the high tech in it. So I purchased it. What a dream. It threads it self no bobbin issues. I can adjust the speed. i don't even use the pressure foot!! I use the button. I was a beginer sewer. I taught myself as a kid. And lets just say it was bad. With this Machine it looks like I have been sewing for years. i have now made clothes fo rmy daughters horse shows that are world quality. That people spend thousands on, and I custom design my own. Now I make my own clothes.

I am about to tackle my boys new quilts and bedding. I had not had the time to embroider. So tonight I went through the CD and learned. In one hour after playing around with the designs and test sewing. I just hook the design up and walk away and it's done. It sews fast and no fuss. Not hard to learn at all. I even used the regular needle. I had the right heavier needle but I felt it was leaving a bit too much heavy needle marks. I leave the tension on 3, the machine recomends 4. Between 3 and 4 it is a steady average. Now I can't wait to start embroidering towels and dresses for my baby. It opened a whole new dimention. Infact everyone gets homemade beautiful embroidered towels for christmas this year!
My 1 complaint. No USB, I find the designs I like are well not compatiable. There is a card set you have to buy seperate and now I will be purchasing to see about downloading into. Some people say 4x4 is the largest. So if I ever want to go pro and be bigger then Ill have to upgrade to a bigger machine. This machine is so easy my daughter who is 9 is using it.

My mother in laws 20yr kenmore froze up and I talked her into geting one like mine. Well I took it over and showe dher how it works. ( she is non computer savy) She ordered one off amazon and used my discount ( i work for amazon.) She got it in 2 days and it was a holiday weekend. She loves it and uses it all day every day.
As I said I am 29yrs old and this machine makes you learn how to sew easy and advance fast. I have had it for 2yrs now, and all I can say is, Time to embroider!

You won't go wrong with this machine. There is 4 different kinds of instructions. On the machine, book, CD, and LCD help screen on the machine. I mean it is idiot proof, loose the cd and instruction book thats ok it's on the machine!

Sewing vs Embroidery -- 2010-07-24
Got this for my birthday-LOVE the sewing options-don't have to use a foot peddle, great bobbin winder, easily self threads, touch LCD screen totally awesome; I've done several craft projects-made my granddaughter a sleeping bag and many, many purses for my daughter to sell with her other crafts. Got this machine because I wanted to learn how to embroider; a total let down! Can't do much with letters-can't do but one line. Went to a dealer and the only way I can do very much is to buy an adapter that costs $118 (PED Basic) on Amazon; additional cards to download to are expensive to buy as well-another $60, & anything I want to purchase from a dealer will cost anywhere from $60-$100.
There isn't a usb port on machine to use a memory stick which would be the best and cheaper option. I'm just disappointed in how much it is going to cost to be able to do what I was wanting-If I had known I would have put my money in a little more expensive machine. So, if your wanting to learn to embroider-spend a little more and get something else. (And do more research on the machine-don't wait til you buy one and find out the things I did)

Great fun at a great price! -- 2010-09-07
I'm a crafter who's always willing to try something new. I have some experience with needle felting by hand, and was thrilled to find this machine at this price.
Yes, I broke needles - but only after I pushed the machine to its limit in stacking layers of fabric. I found that what works best when starting is to keep the MACHINE speed FAST (pedal to the metal), and MOVE THE FABRIC SLOWly. Also, wait a second after you take your foot off the pedal and allow the needles to stop in the "needle up" (raised) position - then pull the fabric away from the machine. Pulling the fabric out of the machine while the needles are still down is the fastest way to break needles.
Being able to use different needle configurations is very helpful.
5 needles are great for felting large areas, but 3 needles do a nice job on smaller areas, and give you more control. This is a great machine for using up all sorts of scrap fabrics, The machine comes with roving, and it makes a great "glue" between layers of the more slippery synthetic fabrics.
Take the time to experiment first, it will pay off when it's time to make that "special" piece.

Met My Expectations -- 2010-08-26
Initially I was a little hesitant to purchase this item after reading the poor reviews... however I felt that the price couldn't be beaten if this machine only performed half as well as advertised. Well, it performs just the way that I'd hoped. I had no problems with various thicknesses of fabric, however I think the key is to treat the process carefully. Excessive pushing and pulling on the fabric while needle felting can possibly cause the needles to break. Also, one should be very mindful to set the fabric thickness opening to the right measure (there are three thicknesses, thin, medium and heavy).

Easy Breezy -- 2010-06-25
This is an easy machine to learn. I don't know much about sewing machines and I only use this embroidery machine for embroidery. As long as you read and follow the manual, it's a piece of cake. You will soon discover it does not come with much, in the way of fonts and designs. But, surf the web and you will find plenty of free design downloads, like [...]. And there's font software for sale out on the web too. I'm glad I bought this model. It's like having a printer. Because you do all your embroidery designing on your PC, then you just click a button and send the design to the Singer and it starts embroidering.

TAKES TIME TO GET TO KNOW THIS MACHINE -- 2010-03-08
I bought this machine Christmas of last year. I must admit i was a bit intimidated by it at first. Once i took the machine out of the box and saw all the parts and looked at the DVD I then put everything back in the box and waited for a good 3 weeks to open the box again. I was determined not to let a machine intimidate me, so I took everything out and followed the instructions. I did get the error message at first about the threading, but because i had read the instructions and viewed the DVD I knew that i was not threading the machine correctly - why blame a machine for human error. So I took it upon myself to learn how to thread the machine correctly and once I had accomplished that task, I had no problems with the machine doing embroidery or sewing. This machine does nice embrodiery work, but you have to experiment with it to find out what the machine can do and what you need to do to to get the machine to do it. So, I bought some cheap cloth on sale and went about practicing the stitches and the embroidery appliques. And the lessons I learned from doing that saved me a bundle on material that I would have otherwise ruined and the frustration i would have felt in doing so.

So, bottom line is that I would recommnend this machine. You must take the time to understand how this machine works and read the instructions and review the DVD (also going online to websites and reading the Q&A's about this machine will also help you. And, it is not about how computer savy or how long you have been sewing - if you are not following the directions for this particular machine none of that is going to help you.

It's OK -- 2010-06-17
I bought my machine from [...]. [...] has the machine for $55.00. The machine stitches good but the only stitch function that it has is 3 needle positions.
They tell you that the machine can do more but only if you do most of the work. The blind hem stitch is a joke and the button hole isn't much better. Brother has better machines for about $70 or $80. I wish I would have waited. I like the flowers though.
