 | Hunter 33222 Care-Free 2.2-gallon HumidifierPlus with Exclusive NiteGlo Night Light
Not recommended -- 2010-07-09 The unit is disappointing. The fan is noisy even on lowest setting. The case design makes access to filters cumbersome. The permanent filters themselves seem good and quite robust.. The unit badly needs automatic operation. As it is, it runs constantly even when comfortable humidity levels have been reached. There is no humidity level indicator. A basic no-frills machine but many others are better although maintenance is low on this unit..
Lots of humidity, but noisy & drippy -- 2010-06-25 I purchased this for wintertime use. I was looking for a unit with good capacity and the power to quickly add moisture to very dry, heated air, and that did not require filter replacement. I do have experience using humidifiers. On the plus side, this unit puts out a lot of moisture, without "wetting" surfaces. It is easy to see how much water is in the unit, and it can run pretty much all day once filled. I also found it easy to take apart and appreciate that it can be cleaned thoroughly -- which is a must for humidifiers!
The main "con" for this unit is that it is unpleasantly loud, with a bit of a high-pitched whine. Most of the year, I sleep with a large air filter running, so I have a pretty high noise threshold. Even so, I could not sleep with this humidifier going, which was disappointing, as I had primarily wanted it for nighttime use.
The other issue is that getting the tank into position almost always leads to some water drippage (the tank has to be upended from its filling position) - one would think that some kind of "lock" mechanism could be employed to reduce dripping from the valve until the tank is locked into place.

 | Crane Nursery Ultrasonic Humidifier - Blue
A gift that was very well received -- 2008-12-15 I purchased this Blue Bear for a baby shower. My two grandson's have this product (different animals). My Son had researched it completely. The recipients were very happy to have the blue bear since their theme was bears. I would definately purchase another.
This item is exactly as described.... -- 2007-01-16 My 13 daughter suffers from consistent nosebleeds during the winter months. This cute little humidifier fits conveniently on the corner of her desk. Unlike most humidifiers, it is so quiet that you can't hear it at all. The only way you know it is running is by the cool mist venting from the top. It is also the lowest maintenance humidifier that we've ever owned and better yet, of all the high $$ units I have purchased throughout the years, this one gets the job done and done well!

 | Hunter 34257 2.5-Gallon Care Free Wickless Humidifier Ultra with Niteglo
OK so far -- 2010-01-14 I just got the humidifier today, so I can't comment on most aspects of its operation. One design aspect that I don't like is the location of the humidistat and controls (on the top). I knew the location before buying it, and knew in advance that I wouldn't like the location, so I can't complain much. But if anybody from Hunter is listening, consider placing the controls on the side towards the bottom if that's feasible.
My first choice for humidifier placement was on a breakfast bar separating the kitchen from the dining area. That was near the filtered water source, and the maximum distance from the bedroom to minimize the noise while in bed. The only problem with that location was that I would need a ladder to see the humidistat reading. The humidistat location demands that the unit be placed on or near the floor
piece of junk -- 2009-12-15 Stopped working within two years of purchase. When it was working it never produced enough humidity for a medium sized room. Was also a total nightmare to clean. I expected better from Hunter.

 | Hunter 33252 CareFree Humidifier Plus with Exclusive Nite Glo Night Light
Features not made clear -- 2010-02-21 I had owned two of the Hunter humidifiers before and was looking to replace them. It was unclear from the descriptions just which humidifier I should get, as all the model numbers had changed. I wanted a model that automatically turned off when the water was gone. That is not what I got. And to make matters worse, their customer service people couldn't figure it out either, and were of no help whatsoever. I kept the new humidifiers, as they work fine and do the job. But I miss the automatic shutoff feature.
Doesn't Last - Noisy -- 2010-01-16 I was disappointed with this product. I had owned a Honeywell prior to buying this and was looking for a unit that did not require a replacement filter.
The first thing I noticed was this unit took twice as long to humidify the room as my Honeywell. It was much less efficient at getting the water into the air.
Secondly, it was noisy and started to rattle approx. 3 months after purchase. We use it only in the 3 months of winter.
The next season I immediately noticed that it was really noisy. Long story short - the cheap little motor is shot.
I threw this one in the trash and I'm back to using Honeywell humidifiers. The big difference is, Honeywell uses drum style fans which move air more quietly and much faster.
Hope this helps.

 | Sesame Street Humidifier
Great buy! -- 2010-01-26 I bought this humidifier based on a friend recommendation. I had already been through three humdifiers to no avail. I went and bought this one and I have now had it for four years and I use it OFTEN. I love it and so do my kids. It's easy to fill, clean, and it is portable. The quiet sound of the machine helps my kids stay asleep when they have a cold and overall it is very effective in its mist. It doesn't make a mess (the three machines I had before I had to have towels underneath.) I would recommend it!
Did not like it -- 2010-01-22 Very low performance, loud, and not a good looking one.
Avoid it at all costs

 | HONEYWELL/ENVIRACAIRE HWM910 Warm Moisture 2 Gallon Humidifier
Cheap and Effective -- 2010-02-12 The Honeywell enviracaire HWM910 is the same as the Duracraft DWM250. These humidifiers are cheap and effectively humidify a single room. They are a good way to keep your throat and sinuses from drying out at night. Thanks to a well designed screw-bottom seal, they are one of the easiest humidifiers to refill. The parts are solid enough to last years with proper maintenance. However, the units are cheap enough to toss and replace if your heating element goes after you've let 1/4 inch of sediment calcify.
On the high setting, the HWM910 will run through the night while you sleep without running out of water. If you want to keep it running all day, you will have to fill it two and a half times and that will provide the air with 2 1/2 gallons of water moisture. Each tank you fill is 1 gallon of water. You can use distilled water to reduce sediment buildup but it is more economical to use tap water and clean the unit once a week with vinegar and a toothbrush. Cleaning is the most annoying thing about this filter. Mold will grow if you do not clean this unit once a week as well. There are several parts to clean, though the tank usually does not get moldy because the water inside it doesn't get warm. If you run the unit continuously, you may find you need to clean out mold less often and sediment more often. Ideally, you should let the unit run dry or empty it between uses.
Great, but doesn't run long -- 2010-02-11 Like most reviewers, I don't know where the capacity figures presented came from. On the high setting the full tank is empty in a matter of a few hours, and on low, it only makes it about 8 before I need to refill. That being said, it does a great job of putting moisture into the air in the bedroom I have it in and it is very easy to clean. The light produced is very soft and doesn't distrub my sleep or hurt my eyes. This really helped while I was sick and also made the room feel warmer with the heat turned on very low at night. I'd recommend as long as you don't mind having to refill it a lot more often than the description suggests.

 | Vicks 1.5 Gallon Cool Mist Humidifier
Low price, lotsa steam, and actually not loud -- 2010-07-05 Reading the other reviews, you'd think you were making the biggest mistake of your life buying this great little machine. It's not loud at all - I don't know what they're talking about. And it blows a giant stream of cool mist that has helped our newborn breathe freely in the humidity-free Arizona air. Only thing is, and I don't know why, it takes about 3 initial runs before full mist capacity is met. Instructions even forewarn this - it has to get broken in somehow. Well, once you've done that, it's awesome, honestly. Just keep it clean.
Excessively loud - like having a mini prop engine in the room -- 2010-04-12 The product does it's job, but the main gripe I have is that it's waaaaaay toooooo loud! We live right next to an air station, and it puts an overhead flying aircraft to shame - the only thing missing is our house vibrating! Bought this for our baby, and it helps his breathing, but if it's turned on after he has already fallen asleep, it definitely wakes him up.

 | Safety 1st Ultrasonic 360 Degree Humidifier
Was great until it stopped working -- 2010-05-19 I had been using this to mist my indoor plants (with excellent results by the way); I had the unit turned on for approx. 2-3 hrs. per day, every other day or so, for about 6 months. I would imagine that this would certainly fall into the category of 'typical use.' (In other words I don't feel as though I 'overused' it.) I really enjoyed the product - the compact design and light weight made it very easy to simply pick it up and plug into another outlet (even though mine tended to stay in the same location throughout its life). Well, the thing died on me this morning! Went kaput, out of nowhere! I haven't had this humidifier for that long - less than a year - so I was kind of perplexed. My first thought was that it might be the outlet, so I went around my condo and tried various other outlets, to no avail. I keep the unit clean (a teaspoon of ordinary white household vinegar mixed w/some water works very well for that) so I didn't suspect it had anything to do with something becoming 'clogged.' Even so, I disassembled it and cleaned it thoroughly, dried it completely, then filled it back up and tried it again - nothing. Absolutely no signs of life whatsoever. It's a real shame, because up until now I'd been extremely satisfied w/this product! The price, the performance, ease of use - I had nothing negative to say about it. I didn't happen to purchase through Amazon, I bought mine from an actual Target store, so I plan on taking it back to that store and at least negotiating a store credit. Not even one year out of a humidifier that I didn't use excessively is just unacceptable I think. In the end, it's unfortunate that I cannot recommend this product.
Leaks sometimes; Hard to carry reservior tank after filling with water -- 2010-04-01 I'm so incredibly disappointed in the design of this item. It's a very attractive-looking unit, with a nice small footprint so it doesn't take up a lot of counter space wherever you put it. I researched a lot of humidifiers online on Amazon and other sites, and this one got good reviews, but there were only a few reviews in total so I should have known better than to think this was a good representation of people's experience w/ this item.
The drawbacks in the design completely cancel out any of the seemingly attractive features. I have two other ultrasonic humidifiers by another manufacturer and I love them, but one of them finally wore out after years of use, and they discontinued the model that I have. So I'm looking for another "favorite" model. But this one is definitely not it.
When you fill the reservoir tank with water, the screw-on cap has to be seated just right or the rubber gasket won't seal properly and the water will leak out. The threads on the screw-cap are too loose. It's too easy to "mis-thread" the screw-cap without realizing it, until it's too late and water starts to leak out after you put the tank onto the base unit. Now I'm so nervous about water leaking out after unit is turned on (water + electricity = bad stuff). So now when I fill the tank and put it back onto the base unit, I wait about 5 minutes before turning it on so I can see if it's leaking. What a hassle!
Also, once the reservoir tank is filled with water, it is not very easy to carry it back to the base unit. After you fill the tank (and once you make double-sure the screw-cap is threaded properly), there's no good way to grab on to it securely when you carry it back to the base unit. I never had this problem with any other humidifier before, and I'm really surprised the designer of this model didn't think of this.
There are no handles and no part where you can get a solid grip on it. When it's heavy from being full of water, this can be a problem. You'd expect there to be a little bit of water on your hands or on the side of the reservior (not unusual for any humidifier), but this makes it even more likely it'll slip in your hands. You really have to grab onto it tighly. I have arthritis and tentonitis in my hands, and it's somewhat painful for me to carry the full tank back to the base unit. I've actually started wrapping it up in a towel to carry it back to the base unit. Yet another hassle!
I didn't return the unit within the 30-day period because the weather was so dry and I was desperate for some humidity in the air in my home, and quite frankly I didn't have the time go look for another one. It's sold by Target through Amazon, so I might try bringing it to a Target store to return it (Amazon's return policy says you can't bring items back to the store of a 3rd pary seller - but I'll give it a try anyway). If that doesn't work I could return it to Amazon for an 80% credit but I'll have to pay return shipping.
If return shipping will cost too much to make it worth returning, I could donate it to the Salvation Army. But I'm not even sure I'd want to do that with all the problems this thing has. I feel like I should put a warning label on it so whoever uses it will know what they're getting into. I'd hate for someone with arthritis to pay for it and have trouble carrying it, or even worse for someone to get electrocuted if the tank leaks.
...It's pretty bad that I dislike this product so much that I'm not even comfortable giving it away to someone else.
Well, now I know better than to assume that someone wouldn't design a unit that's so hard to carry, or a unit that has such an undependable cap that can leak.

 | The Sharper Image EV-HD10 Cool Mist Ultrasonic 1-Gallon Humidifier with Clean Mist Technology
Works like a DREAM and is easy to clean... -- 2010-09-04 I purchased this ultrasonic humidifier a year ago for my two boys, who seem to always be congested either with colds or seasonal allergies or due to the dry air from our A/C. Prior to having this one, we went through a couple humidifiers (either warm or cool mist) a season because they either broke down, didn't do a good enough job, leaked, or were too difficult to clean. This humidifier works like a DREAM and is so very VERY easy to clean. I love that I can turn the dial to output the desired amount of mist. It's super quiet, too. I know others have said they've had problems with theirs being too noisy or becoming noisy after awhile, but I have not experienced that problem. I've also read that some complain about the demineralization cartridge not working for as long as stated or costing too much. I can agree and sympathize there, but folks...you don't have to buy that cartridge. Just use distilled water. It does the same job, and you can pick up the gallong jugs from your grocery store. While this humidifier IS easy to clean, the manufacturer recommends you do clean the water tank every two to three weeks - as well as the water inlet and ultrasonic nebulizer, which are behind a panel that pops off. Don't forget that little bit of maintenance; it's important. I have to say, I LOVE that there are no mold issues with this humidifier compared to other cheaper ones I have used. All in all, after having gone through a multitude of humidifiers before purchasing this one I would recommend it hands down. Best humidifier purchase yet!
Repeated failures -- 2010-09-01 We bought one from Bed Bath and Beyond .. it lasted a month or so until the light went red and the humidifier wouldn't mist any longer. The volume went way up before that as well.
Ok, no big deal, return it and get another ...
After a few weeks there was a burned rubber smell and a very noticeable increase in volume.
We returned it again, not buying this brand again after being twice burned :(.
