Does an average job for a $40 steamer. -- 2009-07-19
I bought this same steamer WITH the floor kit 4 to 5 years ago regular price at $40. Mine even came with a strap so I could put it on my shoulder. At the price I paid, I got what I paid for - an okay, inexpensive steamer. However, I do not think the steamer is worth more than what I paid.

There are several steamers within the same $40 price range that have similarly designed steamers; SteamFast SF-226 Handheld Steam Cleaner is one and it sells for $35 with free shipping. To be completely honest, I wish I would have bought a higher priced steamer (around $100) like the McCulloch MC-1275 Heavy Duty Steam Cleaner for three reasons: accessories, capacity and ease of use.

The brush head on the Scunci (and similar models) is way too small for large-scale cleaning. The circumference of the brush head is about the size of a quarter. That's nice for working in small areas, but if your are trying to clean something larger it takes forever. In my opinion, spending money on a steamer is supposed to SAVE time. (The McCulloch and a couple of other models have much larger cleaning brush heads along with the smaller ones.)

The capacity of the Scunci is way too small and you have to refill it often. That means you have to let the unit cool for 5 minutes, fill it, and wait to get steam again. It is fine if you have other things to do, but I just want to get my house clean. Again, I bought a steamer to save time.

Last, I would prefer to have a model that sits on the floor so that my hands are free to clean. With this steamer, you have to hold the steamer in one hand so that you can press the trigger and hold the wand in the other hand. It just makes an easy task difficult. Putting the trigger on the wand would have been much more practical.

If you can get it at a similar price that I did and that's all that is in your budget to pay, then this isn't a bad option at all, but know that you will probably want to save up for a better steamer and pass this one along to someone else.

Not all that -- 2009-03-18
I am not sure what this product is actually good for. It just didn't do the things I expected. I thought it might remove the film on my shower door but no go. Using it for the carpet was not pleasant and didn't do much.
