Awful sole plate -- 2010-08-18
I've been ironing for more than 25 years and *never* had a problem with residue on a sole plate until we bought this model. Fabric sticking to the iron is a constant problem. If you're going to buy this, order some Faultless Hot Iron Cleaner at the same time. You will need it often.

Although we had the iron for only a short time before replacing it, the retractable cord also did not work well. We had our previous iron for many years and never had so much trouble getting the retraction mechanism to work completely.

I like it -- 2010-04-07
I really like this iron. I love green so it was the perfect color and it does its job. It heats up quickly and is nice and heavy so it will knock out any wrinkles in its path. The only thing I really don't like about the iron is the retractable cord. As stated before, sometimes it gets stuck right smack in the middle. It also can't fit on the shelf in my hallway closet because it is slightly too large standing up.

Despite those minor setbacks it is very easy to handle. Doesn't have the list of materials like most other irons to guide you (cotton, nylon, etc.) but like I said if you have been ironing long enough then you will have no problem using this one.

Does a good job of ironing -- 2009-12-04
I have been using this iron for over 4 months now and it does a good job of ironing. It is slightly heavier than the earlier B&D iron that I had. It heats up quickly and is smooth to operate. I think two design flaws in this model are the cover of water well which can break easily if not carefully handled and the front of the iron should have been more slanted to ease pouring of water in to the iron. The retractable cord is a very convenient feature and gives a neat look to the iron, although that makes it relatively larger in size than the other irons without the cord-reel. Also, sometimes the cord gets stuck in the middle and then it is required to pull out the complete cord and let it roll back. I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a reasonably priced basic iron which includes cord-reel.

Poor Materials -- 2009-10-12
My Wife, who uses this iron, told me that the coating material on the sole plat comes off on clothes as She uses it.

B&D self reeling steam iron -- 2009-10-12
I like the fact that the dial is on the top of the iron and not under the handle. Also great, is the rewinding feature and no tangling or dangling wire.

I've used the iron several times, and find that unless I have it turned on to a high number for steam ironing, it irons, but doesn't steam. When it does, it does an excellent job. The dry iron is very good.

I haven't tried the self-clean feature; I will do so after a month or so. I've always used GE/Black and Decker irons and have been satisfied with them. My last iron which was not a Black and Decker, clogged up and though I set the iron for steam, it did not steam. And, what made me buy a new iron was that the dial (which was under the handle and difficult to turn) wound completely around and I could not tell whether it was ON or OFF.

In all, I am happy with my new B&D iron.

It is now January 2010, and for the past few months had excellent results ironing. When rewinding the cord would stop, I would have to pull it out a little, then press the button to rewind. This is a minor inconvenience.

My problem now is that the sole plate is scorching, and I am not using any spray starch since the steam setting does an excellent job. During the winter months, I don't iron more than 30 minutes at a time. During the summer months, I have an hour or more or ironing at a time. A few weeks ago, I had flannel shirts and PJs, and when I finished ironing and turned it off, the sole plate was all BLUE. It could be from the flannel shirts I ironed. I had one hard time trying to clean it off as the manual instructs. Finally I resorted to a Rescue soap pad. Again, tonight, I ironed several men's cotton shirts and a few cotton dish towels -- and the sole plate scorched. I scrubbed and scrubbed for over 45 minutes, and got most of it off.

I am greatly disappointed. There is no reason for scorching as no spray starch was used. I intend to contact B&D to see what they say.
